Emancipation, Roman Catholic.

Until 1829 Roman Catholics were not permitted to take part in any aspect of government employment or political representation in Dominica. Such positions were reserved for members of the established church: The church of England, and other Protestant faiths such as Methodists. By the "Roman Catholic Relief Act" passed in the British parliament in 1829, all disabilities were removed and Roman Catholics were admitted to public offices. In Britain itself certain restrictions remained such as that no monarch or their consort may be a Roman Catholic.
